“A mid-range DSLR that punches above its weight”

A headline selling point of the D7000 is 1080p HD video with continuous autofocus. I had never previously bothered with digital camera movies but the D7000 has almost won me over. It is certainly not perfect. If you pan a group of active children the…Read more

“Excellent Camera but sometimes there’s a problem”

I cannot add much to the excellent reviews already written about this camera. Having migrated from a three year old Pentax the improvement has been jaw-dropping. The autofocus is fast and accurate, the high ISO capability is amazing (even at ISO3200 the…Read more

My own experience is this.  I was (and still am) an avid fan of the Nikon D40 which is a superb lightweight but excellent performing DSLR camera which I’ve used for several years.  It’s a shame that it has been discontinued by Nikon.  But there are similar newer products eg the Nikon D5200.  However, I felt it was time to move up to a semi-professional Nikon DSLR and selected the Nikon D7000 on the strength of its excellent reviews.  I haven’t been disappointed and particularly appreciate some of the finer features (horizon, grid display, ability to store user settings for quick retrieval, higher speed (ISO) settings that still provide excellent quality images, and the ability to focus with lenses that won’t autofocus with the Nikon D40 such as the superb Nikon 50mm F1.8D lens, to name but a few things).

At the same time, it has to be said that the Nikon D7000 is a wholly more sophisticated camera with so many more settings that it’s inclined to be a bit overwhelming for users of more basic cameras such as the Nikon D40, so I probably wouldn’t recommend this camera for beginners.

For those willing to put in the effort to explore the Nikon D7000’s full feature set it is undoubtedly a wonderful camera capable of turning out excellent images and providing a level of flexibility that I hadn’t imagined.  I’m thrilled with my Nikon D7000 and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
